The First Week of Motherhood POSTPARTUM EDITION
Hello friends,
The first week of motherhood post birth can feel so charged of emotions. I love sharing with my momma clients to take one day at a time. It can often feel overwhelming in so many ways including healing while caring for a newborn. I always want to prepare by normalizing what my momma clients will possible experience. Here are some ways to prepare for your postpartum journey filled with all the feels!
These are a few of my favorite tips ⬇️
🤱🏼resting looks different
🍂Preparing your mind and body before postpartum is essential. You can do this in ways like visiting a naturopath to learn about what your body needs with vitamins and foods. Also checking on your vitamin b-12 levels is absolutely a way to go! I love sharing that rest will look like a puzzle with many pieces through 24 hours. You might rest a few minutes here, you might nap a few hours there and it all will come together. Preparing ahead of time by chatting with your partner about how to team up for quality rest, perhaps hiring an overnight postpartum doula and learning how to nap are all places to start.
🤱🏼relying on freezer postpartum meals
🍂Preparing 1-2 meals per week in the months close to your due date will absolutely help you with future meals. I love prepping quick meals and muffins for the freezer around 38 weeks prenatally. Filling your freezer with yummy snacks will benefit your heart and mind knowing you have available nourishment around the clock.
🤱🏽warm herbal peri bottle tea is the best
🍂Self care will look different too but it is still necessary for your healing body and heart. I love to make a huge batch of herbal sitz bath tea and use it for peri bottles. Try to take your time in the bathroom instead of rushing too! It might feel really cozy to keep your peri bottle liquid temperature warm also.
🤱🏽it feels like a dream
🍂The first weeks will feel like surreal. Often times the heart and mind haven’t connected. There might be moments of panic, joy and tears. Just take it one day a time and accept that this is a huge change even if you felt so prepared before birth.
🤱🏽the coziest place in the world
🍂Your bedroom will feel like the cocoon of your dreams with a little preparation. I love using prenatal visits to prepare the nest with the coziest bedsheets, pajamas and a bedside table filled with all the things you will need. Focus on preparing this space by deep cleaning, organizing and restocking what you will need to recover.
🤱🏽not really hungry but knowing we need nourishment
🍂If you don’t have a full appetite after birth you are not alone. It can feel all so overwhelming to even eat without adequate rest after a marathon birth. I love encouraging sipping on bone broth, homemade electrolyte drinks and momma lattes filled with collagen until momma’s feel ready to eat more fibrous foods. One day at a time!
Happy healing!
