When a Postpartum Momma Says She Does Not Want Help…
Hello friends,
I am often asked how to care for a postpartum momma despite her sharing that she doesn’t want to be cared for in person. I would start by being humble by asking her what she really needs. Often times a momma needs to be heard and seen. So instead of throwing gifts at her, take a moment and actually listen, you will find there is so much you can do. I always keep in mind that each momma is unique in their postpartum recovery. Instead of assuming it’s a you thing, kindly ask if you can assist in more of a hands off approach. Focus on the momma, focus on her needs and offer what you can do.
These are a few of my favorite tips ⬇️
🤱🏼offer to order 40 days worth of postpartum meal delivery service
🍂If cooking meals yourself is not an option, I love ordering from a postpartum service like Mama Meals. You can send your momma friend a gift card to pick out her favorite meals or offer to send an assortment of your past favorites. This thoughtful gift can easily be stored in the freezer until the usual meal train ends and the real meal brainstorming begins. Make it simple and ask a collection of friends to pool together funds for these meals as the best gift ever.
🤱🏼gift a massage therapist session in home
🍂Simply gifting a new momma an in home massage therapist session can be life changing! Most mommas want and need to stay home for the first six weeks, so a cozy massage in home can be the most lovely. Keep it simple and thoughtful!
🤱🏽write a thoughtful card & let her know you are always here
🍂Postpartum recovery looks different for each person! Give your friend time and let them know you are always here to chat. Keep the door open for when she is ready for communication and connection.
🤱🏽leave a CSA box of fresh produce at the door
🍂If a nourishing postpartum meal is not something of interest or a meal train is already at play, offer to drop off a fresh box of produce. You can also preorder CSA boxes from local farmers to be dropped at her door. Fresh produce can be absolutely a luxury when leaving for a farmers market is out of the routine for the first few weeks.
🤱🏼share your favorite postpartum reading material
🍂Maybe there were specific books you loved during your own postpartum recovery journey. Sharing your favorites with your friend can be absolutely the sweetest gift. Simply bundle a few of your favorite books and add a beautiful ribbon tied around them.
