Learn How to Bengkung Belly Bind After Birth

I love the Malaysian Bengkung belly binding method. Binding can be such a healing tool when used properly. I say properly because I know there will be comments sharing how binding possibly caused problems.

But what I am always curious about is…if it was done properly? Who binded you? What materials were used to belly bind? What was your birth like? There are so many elements to take into consideration, so feel free to message me any questions before binding.

🧺 Why I love binding after birth:

🌼 Structural Support: the bind acts as a support for your back, hips and abs as you heal. Relaxin is still in your system and can create the feeling of being loose and prone to injury

🌼 Warming/circulation: the bind can be a warm compress against the skin

🌼Comforting: a cotton breathable bind can be what the body needs to rest and feel grounded

🌼Uterus Contractions: a compression, used properly, can be comforting as the uterus contractions. Some of my clients share that it lessened any painful post birth uterus contractions

🌼Pelvic Floor Support: I tread lightly in this area because binding can be a supportive layer but there are so many layers needed for true healing. A pelvic floor therapist that knows your birth story can be best in creating the ultimate healing layer. Binding can be supportive until/as you see your PT

🌼Appetite encouraging: a warm womb rub with sesame oil + a breathable cotton belly binder can stimulate mind and body connection. Which creates a relaxed calm body connected to your needs

🧺Why I prefer the Bengkung Belly Binding Method?

🌼 Breathable cotton material: the binding should always be done with breathable muslin cotton non treated, non dyed

🌼Fit: the fit is most important, how the bind fits usually needs to be evaluated by a trained belly binder. We want to always bind low on the hips and never bind midsection only

🌼Snug over tight: again the fit is most important, I love educating my momma clients how comfy this kind of bind is

🧺 How to prep for binding after birth?

🌼 Items to purchase:

1 cotton belly binder 17-22 yards of fabric

1 container of sesame oil
