How to Visit a Postpartum Momma

Hello friends,

Visiting a postpartum momma can bring up so many emotions and happy tears. I know for myself, visiting mommas daily is always such a delight. Before you visit a postpartum momma or prepare to have visitors come see you, read these tips!

These are a few of my favorite tips ⬇️

🤱🏼the perfect gift is a basket filled with thoughtfulness

🍂It can be so tempting to bring over baby items but what if we focused on momma’s first? What does a postpartum momma need during this tender season? I created some simple lists to get your creative thoughts going - there is so many thoughtful items you can bring over and sometimes that looks like homemade baked goodies or soup!

🤱🏼words of affirmation are essential

🍂What would happen if we spent less time sharing our own experiences and more time listening to the postpartum mommas? I love sprinkling words of affirmation and encouragement while visiting a postpartum momma. Simple words like “you are doing your best”, “you are a newborn too”, “it is HARD but you can do hard things”, “how can my hands be of assistance during this season?” - can be all a momma needs to hear.

🤱🏽bring over something homemade and created with love

🍂Homemade food created with love is the magic. We often feel like something fancy and gourmet is what brings joy to a celebration like postpartum. But there are brilliant studies done that show a meal cooked with the intention of love and nurture brings more healing. I love making nourishing soups like my wild rice pumpkin soup for my postpartum momma clients.

🤱🏽turn on the tea kettle and open your heart to listen to her birth story

🍂If we just sat down and settled into the postpartum momma’s energy, we would see there is healing to hold this space. Visitors often times brings in high energy but knowing that this is a tender season, we match their energy and slow down. Taking the initiative to turn on the tea kettle, make tea and sit down shows we are open to listening and supporting.

Feel free to reach out to me if you need additional support - postpartum doulas are trained and passionate about supporting mothers through their journey of healing no matter the season they are in.
