Instead of Holding a Newborn Baby…

Hello friends,

oFTEN TIMES WE FORGET TO HOLD MOMMAS BEFORE THE BABY, THESE ARE MY FAVORITE TIPS TO CREATING AN ENVIRONMENT TO BE HELD (MOMMAS) AND HOLDING MOMMAS (CARETAKERS). I love creating a Pinterest board in my mind of ways to support postpartum mommas. If you are a postpartum momma yourself, there is so many ways to plan for your most healing postpartum journey. Often times just communicating and making postpartum prep exciting and inclusive of your family and friend group, will be the spark to light abundance. If you are a doula/family/friend/caretaker wanting to be more inspired to care for mommas, these tips are for you too.

These are a few of my favorite tips ⬇️

🤱🏼research ways to support plugged ducts & bring over healing items

🍂When you are in the moment with plugged ducts and trying to feed your baby, it can be absolutely overwhelming to even think of ways to care for yourself. There are so many resources out there to support mommas but I really like to keep things simple and rely on one specific source (click the button below to check on their website). If you are looking to empower yourself or friends to care for you, save this website as a bookmark to always go back to in the future. Simple ways like knowing herbs and massage to care for the body can be powerful. Don’t forget a call to an IBCLC might be exactly what you need. Here are a few of my favorite tools to research for breastfeeding health:

Haakaa breast soaks

Breast massage

Baby’s latch

How do you sleep at night? On only one side?

Is your nursing bra too tight?

🤱🏼make momma a double batch of nourishing muffins with the extra chocolate chips she likes

🍂Instead of assuming what a momma wants for snacks, why not ask? Why not present a few options that you found helpful during postpartum and see how she feels about the options. Make sure to listen to what she really is craving and go with that! I love for postpartum mommas to have a few favorite recipes saved on their Pinterest and send the link to friends.

🤱🏽craft a thoughtful gift to attach a special memory

🍂Please never forget that she is doing all of this for the first time: this age for the first time, this journey, this everything. So how can bring small moments of joy? Small gifts that will reminder her of this blissful moment?

A beautiful gift to a new momma - just print and make into a small coffee table book

🤱🏽create a bedside basket filled with quick packaged snacks, wool nursing pads and water bottle in her favorite color

🍂Sometimes just getting the ball rolling when it comes to bedside baskets, is all it takes. I love putting together a simple basket for mommas to have close by. While I do love a bedside cart, baskets are easy to take from room to room. I always make sure to add some beautiful items too like a water bottle in a momma’s favorite color.

🤱🏽offer to organize her closet with cozy lounge clothing in the front

🍂The kindest gift I believe is removing overwhelm for others during an overwhelming emotionally, physically and spiritually journey. I love adding in some beautiful reminders of enjoying this season by moving lounge clothes to the front of the closet. This also allows momma’s to release the worry about fitting into clothes of the past. Mommas - simply do this before birth by purchasing a few lounge clothing pieces for postpartum and move them to the front of your closet.

Feel free to reach out to me if you need additional support - postpartum doulas are trained and passionate about supporting mothers through their journey of healing no matter the season they are in.

Happy healing!
