How to Honor and Love The Postpartum Body

Hello friends,

This new season of postpartum includes meeting yourself on the other side just as much as meeting your baby. It is a beautiful season but as mommas reach 5-6 weeks, I often start hearing my momma client’s frustration and fear about their changing bodies. It’s understandable that momma’s feel this way because the world around us puts so much pressure on mothers to quickly “bounce back”. And we can put these unrealistic timelines on ourselves. I love reassuring my momma clients that their body is healing right where and how it needs to be. These are some beautiful tips to weave into your timeline while honoring and loving your postpartum body.

These are a few of my favorite tips ⬇️

🤱🏼do a daily morning check in by holding your heart

🍂Taking a beat every morning to check in with yourself is vital. So quickly mommas are swept up in the blur of the day of newborn needs. To schedule 5-10 minutes to breathe outside and hold your heart, you will notice such a difference over a few weeks. Try this small practice and notice what your heart is saying! Some words to echo inside yourself could be “I am whole”, “I am love”, “I give myself grace and love”.

🤱🏼Choosing warm soft full meals over cold crunchy quick snacks

🍂You are not alone if you feel more inclined to grab a quick crunchy protein bar verses warming soup. Those extra steps of creating a meal and warming it up can be too much. This is why I really encourage families to meal prep before birth. The best tip for postpartum is to prepare the freezer with soups - easy to pop into a pot and warm up.

🤱🏽small moves for connection not correction

🍂Moving for the benefit of your mind and body can be a beautiful shift. Again, unfortunately we can fall into the trap of thinking we need to work out for physical benefits and forget the mental benefits. I love encouraging my momma client’s to view movement in a small and meaningful way. Connection with your mind and heart is powerful! This can look like stretches, breathing exercises and walking when appropriate.

🤱🏽apply sesame oil around on the belly before binding

🍂Taking moments to connect with your body is so powerful. The belly receives so much attention during pregnancy but during postpartum it can feel neglected. Plan to take a moment every morning to rub sesame oil on your belly before binding. Binding also connects you to your healing and is a beautiful way to honor your body.
