During a prenatal session, I love preparing my momma clients about all things sitz baths. I truly love a good sitz bath that is equally beneficial as it is soothing. MAKING A SITZ BATH IS SO SIMPLE IF YOU PREPARE THE HERBS AND THE BASIN AHEAD OF TIME. TAKE OUT ALL THE GUESS WORK AND GET THE ITEMS FOR YOUR FIRST SITZ BATH NOW BEFORE YOU GIVE BIRTH. THIS MY SUPER SIMPLE GUIDE FOR CREATING A SITZ BATH DURING POSTPARTUM. AS ALWAYS, ASK YOUR DOCTOR/MIDWIFE/DREAM TEAM BEFORE DOING A SITZ BATH. YOU MIGHT BE CLEARED FOR A REGULAR BATH SO CHECK IN WITH YOUR SUPPORT TEAM BEFORE DOING A SITZ BATH. IF YOU CAN DO A REGULAR BATH THAN OFTEN TIMES A SITZ BATH IS TOTALLY FINE.

LET’S GET INTO MY GUIDE-

What you will need:

🎀 Sitz bath basin (THIS CAN BE GLASS OR PLASTIC)

🧺 pOSTPARTUM APPROPRIATE FRESH OR DRIED HERBS

🎀 WARM SPRING WATER

How to:

💓 cHOOSE IF YOU WILL USE A GLASS OR PLASTIC BASIN TO DO YOUR SITZ BATH. IF YOU ARE CHOOSING GLASS THAN PLACING IT ON THE FLOOR AND SQUATTING INTO IT MIGHT BE THE BEST OPTION. IF YOU PREFER THE TOILET METHOD FOR COMFORT, OPT TO USE WARM WATER VERSUS WARM WARM WARM WATER BECAUSE MICRO PLASTICS ARE A REAL THING. I WOULD PREFER YOU USE COOLER WATER WHEN USING PLASTIC PRODUCTS. YOU CAN ALSO FILL YOUR BATH TUBE WITH LITTLE WATER TO JUST SIT INTO IT VERSUS A FULL BODY BATH. CHOOSE THE BEST OPTION BASED ON COMFORT - WHAT CAN YOU SIT IN COMFORTABLY.

💓 PLACE basin into the toilet or use bath tub. Fill basin or tub with  either water or herbal tea, fill your basin or bath to submerge your healing body. Rest for 5-15 minutes in water/tea. Take some good deep breaths and relax. Once you are done soaking, toss water into the toilet and flush or empty water into tub drain.

I have found that blending a few herbs and florals, that my momma client feels comfortable using, has brought their bodies so much healing. I love to use the same herbs for foot baths, sitz baths and belly compresses. Once I know what florals and herbs my client does best with, we will use these more frequently.

Postpartum sitz baths can be so healing.  Always check in to make sure a sitz bath is appropriate for your personal healing. I always ask mommas to be cleared for a bath first before trying A SITZ BATH.

I love my body sitz bath herbal cubes:

2 tbsp dried lavender

2 tbsp dried chamomile

1 tbsp plantain leaves

1 tbsp rose buds

8 cups of spring mineral water

fREEZE IN A ICE CUBE TRAY. WHEN READY TO USE, Dilute 3-4 cubes per 1 cup water as needed per bath
