I ALWAYS ENCOURAGE A FEW TIPS ALONG THE JOURNEY OF EATING SEASONALLY:
🪴CONNECT WITH A LOCAL FARM AND ORDER A CSA BOX: A FRESH FARM BOX DELIVERED TO YOUR DOOR MONTHLY CAN BE THE VERY BEST WAY TO STAY GROUNDED IN THE SEASONS. LEave THE FARMERS TO THE WORK IN GUIDING YOUR BODY WITH THE PERFECT PRODUCE IN SEASON. I ENCOURAGE YOU TO LOOK FOR A BOX THAT IS EQUALLY AS HELPFUL FOR YOU, AS THE FARMERS. MEANING LOOK TO PURCHASE FROM AN ORGANIC LOCAL FARM THAT SUPPORTS THEIR FARM AND SUPPORTS YOUR HEALTH. LOCAL BEING THE GOAL BUT TRULY DO THE BEST YOU CAN. DON’T KNOW WHO IS LOCAL IN YOUR AREA? VISIT A NATURAL FOOD STORE AND ASK AROUND TO WHERE THEY PURCHASE THEIR ORGANIC PRODUCE. I LOVE FARM FRESH TO YOU IF THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO ACCESS A CSA BOX.
🪴FOCUS ON YOUR CRAVINGS DURING THE SEASON: WHAT IS YOUR BODY NATURALLY TELLING YOU IT NEEDS DURING POSTPARTUM AND THE SEASON YOU ARE IN. YOU MIGHT BE IN AWE TO FIND YOUR BODY ALREADY IS CRAVING THE FOODS WITH NUTRIENTS THAT YOU ARE NEEDING. listen to your body, honor it.
THIS MONTH OF August I FIND MOMMAS HAVING A TOUGH TIME FIGURING OUT HOW TO BALANCE WARM HEALING MEALS FOR POSTPARTUM WHILE BEING IN THE THICK OF THE HEAT (HELLO CALIFORNIA!!). I WOULD ALWAYS ENCOURAGE BALANCE DURING THIS SEASON WHILE HOT SOUPS AND STEWS CAN FEEL HEAVY. BE EASY WITH YOURSELF, THERE ARE NO RULES IN TERMS OF DOING THIS OR THAT which WILL EQUAL HEALING! EVERY BODY IS DIFFERENT AND MORE THAN ANYTHING KEEPING YOU FILLED WITH NUTRIENT DENSE FOODS AND PEACE IS THE GOAL. TAKE OUT THE RULES.

🌼STONE FRUIT: LIKE PEACHES ARE KNOWN FOR VITAMIN A AND POTASSIUM. POTASSIUM IS ESSENTIAL TO BREASTFEEDING. THE FIBER, NUTRIENTS AND ABSOLUTE AMAZING TASTE MAKE STONE FRUIT ONE OF MY FAVORITES FRUITS FOR POSTPARTUM.
🌼Turnips: adding turnips to your diet can help get things moving and keep you regular. As it moves through the digestive tract, fiber adds bulk to the stool to aid in the treatment of constipation.
🌼 Basil: Acting as an anti- inflammation and ANTIOXIDANT, basil can be equally delicious as BENEFICIAL. It also can help with stress and infection - look to basil as your best friend!
🌼 Summer Squash: supportive of blood sugar levels and digestion, summer squash can be so helpful during postpartum. i love adding it to egg bakes and simple room temp smoothies for fiber. Nothing beats summer squash in a cozy soup too.
