Caring for Your Baby While Sick POSTPARTUM EDITION

Hello friends,

Unfortunately sometimes mommas get sick after birth with a flu or cold. It can happen when a momma’s immune system is down after being awake for so many nights and sometimes their health is put on the last of the priority list. It happens to us all but there are some great tips to make those yucky few days a little more manageable while caring for your baby. Obviously it is always more manageable with a supportive partner in home but sometimes mommas are left to care for baby while partner is working/they are doing all the parenting alone. if you are looking for some tips, this is your quick guide.

These are a few of my favorite tips ⬇️

❄️ create a little floor fort to rest while your baby plays

🫖 Throwing some simple pillows and fluffy blankets on the floor next to a play mat will definitely be supportive of your healing. I know I dislike when people say rest while baby rests, but if your baby is sleeping please take advantage of it. Camp out in a sense in this space and allow your baby to play, feed and rest while you heal. Often times being on the floor gives mommas a peace of mind to rest and know baby is snuggled next to them in a safe space.

❄️ use less energy, gather all the items you need for baby in the space you are resting in

🫖 Eliminate movement by gathering all the items you will need in the morning. Or better yet, ask your partner or supportive family member to set you up with water, soup in a thermos and any baby related items. Simply stay in this healing space of your bed, floor fort or couch. Think Less movement and more resting!

❄️ ask friends to drop off chicken broth based soups

🫖 Friends, family and neighbors mean well but often times meals that are dropped off contain a lot of additives. Simply request chicken broth based soups or stews will be dropped off. Unlock all of the amazing nutrients chicken broth includes like minerals and amino acids. eVEN IF YOU AREN’T SUPER HUNGRY, FOCUS ON SIPPING THE BROTH TO KEEP YOU HYDRATED.

❄️ask a close friend to take baby on a hour long walk to allow you to sleep

🫖 If your friends are comfortable taking your baby for a hour long stroll, take them up on it! eVEN BETTER, ASK MULTIPLE FRIENDS, FAMILY MEMBERS AND NEIGHBORS TO ROUTE WALKING BABY THROUGHOUT THE DAY. Knowing your baby is BEING HELD AND safe might be the very thing that allows you to get some restorative sleep that will help your immune system.
