Budget Friendly Ways to Prep for After Birth POSTPARTUM EDITION

Hello friends,

It is so easy to fall into the mindset that we need everything materially to be able to heal during postpartum. When in actuality there is really very few but high quality items needed. If you are feeling like it’s all or nothing with preparing for a healing postpartum journey, let me reassure you that you can find healing and joy in creating a budget friendly postpartum plan!

These are a few of my favorite tips ⬇️

🤱🏼throw a nesting party and meal prep with friends and family

🍂Preparing meals with a village of friends and family members is equally soothing as it is helpful. Gather some of your most kind hearted tender people in your village and ask them to prep meals with you. The best exchange is that this creates memories, supports you in your healing and is way more helpful than another baby gift.

🤱🏼Ask your midwife for a peri bottle, sitz bath basin and extra cotton pads

🍂So quickly we think we need to add all the things to our cart. But if you are overwhelmed in budgeting for all the healing items, ask your birth team before your birth. Often times most things are free for postpartum recovery including cotton pads, a sitz bath basin and a plastic peri bottle. No need to purchase another set when you will be given all of it for free!

🤱🏽Sew your own cotton bengkung belly binder

🍂Again, it can be so tempting to hop on Etsy and add all the gorgeous handmade things to cart. Before you do, can you create your own healing postpartum belly binder? Simply sewing organic cotton fabric of 17 yards length, 9 inches width, you will have yourself a perfect binder. I love to plant dye my own binders too as the perfect gift to mommas. Check out my plant dye process. If making your own isn’t apart of your journey, think about going in on half the price with a friend and share your binder between both your postpartum journeys.

🤱🏽Purchase rice in bulk & make a cozy rice heat pack

🍂I love taking a big bag of rice and making it into a simple heat pack. If you are looking for a specific shape or length, you can create the perfect heat pack for yourself. I have a simple tutorial - I make them for my momma clients daily - so easy!

Feel free to reach out to me if you need additional support - postpartum doulas are trained and passionate about supporting mothers through their journey of healing no matter the season they are in.
